Our slogan is viva la Bachata means live for Bachata. We believe live a good life is all about passion, and our passion is dancing Bachata! We aim to:
- Provide high quality class to increase average Bachata level
- Organize social dance party regularly to construct a lively, energetic dance community
- Collaborate and perform in events to increase HK Bachata exposure and awareness
- Support other instructors/organizers to create a healthy hence still competitive dance environment
All of this starts from passion
Hey I’m Winson. I have always loved living in HK, but I also felt the pressure and stress of working in a fast-paced and demanding environment. I needed an outlet to express myself and to connect with others who shared my passion. That’s when I discovered social dancing in 2016, and it changed my life.
I was drawn to the beauty and culture of Bachata, a dance that originated from the Dominican Republic and spread across the world. I learned that Bachata is more than just a dance, it is a way of communicating and feeling with your partner, creating an energy connection that transcends words. I wanted to share this amazing experience with more people in HK, where the Bachata scene was still small and developing.
Why can't HK be a place for Bachata?
Back to 2019, after traveling to many dance metropolises, I felt that the Bachata culture in HK is comparatively small. I started to wonder why Hong Kong cannot just like other dance cities like Spain, France, Singapore, Shanghai, Korea etc. I decided to start teaching Bachata classes, hoping to inspire and grow the community in HK. I wanted to make HK a place where dancers from all over the world would come and enjoy the vibrant and diverse social dance scene, like in other cities such as Singapore, Korea, Shanghai, Shenzhen, etc.
The Covid pandemic in 2019 was a huge challenge for us, but we did not give up. We found creative ways to keep dancing and learning, despite the restrictions and difficulties. We persevered and overcame the obstacles together as a community. In 2023, I am proud to see how far we have come and how much we have grown. I believe that HK is on the right track to becoming a big dance city, where people can express themselves freely and joyfully through social dancing.
